Leeds United's Chief Operating Officer Matt Child has resigned after less than three-and-half months in the role at the Elland Road outfit, Yorkshire Evening Post reports.

Leeds have experience of promotion

Child was appointed Cheif Operating Officer at Elland Road on December, 12, 2014. The club or Child is yet to make any official confirmation on his resignation.

Speaking back in December, Child said: “It’s clichéd but I’m genuinely honoured to represent the club.

“The opportunity to deliver value to your hometown team and city doesn’t happen that often, if at all, so when I was asked to step in, there was only one answer.

“I have been involved for a few months behind the scenes and have been hugely impressed by the president’s passion, commitment and will to win.

“We find ourselves in interesting times, but as a Leeds fan I know only too well that we are often at our best when we have adversity.”

Speaking when he appointed Child, Massimo Cellino said: “I am delighted to announce the appointment of Matt Child as our new Chief Operating Officer.

“Matt will take immediate responsibility for the management and development of the day to day business.

“It is vitally important that we protect and enhance the future of the club and develop the most effective ‘off field’ team that we can.”

As reported earlier on FLW, Leeds United edge close to signing Catania striker Edgar Cani on a permanent deal at the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Leeds United drew 1-1 with Blackpool in their last Sky Bet Championship match, in a game that was hindered due to the state of the Bloomfield Road pitch.

The Elland Road outfit went 1-0 down in the 44th minute, thanks to a Gary Madine goal which shocked the travelling Leeds United supporters.

A Mirco Antenucci goal in the 62nd minute rescued a point for the Yorkshire club, in a game that Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn would have wanted to win.

Leeds United currently lie in 13th place in the Sky Bet Championship, and have been revitalised of late in the league, having only lost two games in their previous ten Championship fixtures.
