It’s been a slow start to the summer for Leeds United, but it could be about to get a lot worse for the Whites as Cardiff City circle Ronaldo Vieira.

Neil Warnock, an ex-Elland Road manager, is keen on the teenage midfielder, with reports suggesting that Cardiff could launch a £7m bid to test Leeds’ stance.

Here at FLW, we believe that the Whites selling Vieira would be a huge mistake and they should avoid it at all costs.

Firstly, they’d be at risk of aggravating Marcelo Bielsa, who surely hasn’t been impressed with the lack of transfers so far this summer.

The 19-year-old has so much ability, and under Bielsa in the next two years, he could develop into one of English football’s most exciting young players.

In the past Leeds have made the mistake of cashing in on a young midfielder, with Lewis Cook departing for AFC Bournemouth two years ago.

Since then, Cook has established himself in the Premier League, and is now well in Gareth Southgate’s plans for the future, with many tipping the midfielder for a big future on the international stage.

Vieira is different to Cook, but he has the potential to achieve something similar in the future.

Leeds’ supporters will hate seeing another member of the club’s academy developing elsewhere, whilst they continue to struggle in the Championship.

Despite this slow start to the summer, there’s a lot to be positive about at Elland Road, particularly with Bielsa in charge.

However, caving into interest in Vieira would be a huge mistake and a major step back into the past for Leeds.
