On Sunday, Newcastle and Leeds, two teams with decorated histories, meet in the Championship at Elland Road in what should make for a fascinating encounter.

Leeds, having won 7 of their last 10, have made a rampant surge up the table in recent weeks, and subsequently now sit 6th in the table, occupying the final play-off position.

The visitors meanwhile, have been in scintillating form, having won 12 of their last 14 league games.

They sit top of the pile, and although there is a long way to go, with an 8 point cushion to third place, they will be quietly confident of promotion.

Both teams will be looking to continue their good form, but here are THREE reasons why Leeds will come out on top...

The brilliant form of Chris Wood

The former Leicester City striker struggled to make too big of an impact in his first season at Leeds, but has been in sublime form in recent weeks.

He has scored three in his last three, taking his overall tally in all competitions for the season to 12.

This will worry the Newcastle defence, and undoubtedly he will have a major impact on Sunday's game.

The effect of the international break

Whilst both teams were in excellent form leading up to the international break, it will probably have a more detrimental effect to Rafa Benitez's Magpies.

With influential players such as Christian Atsu having gone off and played for their countries in the past week, one has to wonder whether he will be as sharp as usual, having travelled to Africa and back in the past fortnight.

The influence of the Elland Road faithful

For many a decade, Leeds have always provided a tough test for visiting opposition.

Much of this is down to the fans at Elland Road, and whilst what happens on the pitch is not always dictated by the atmosphere of the crowd, an intimidating atmosphere on Sunday could help motivate Garry Monk's charges, and perhaps put a blemish on Newcastle's brilliant start to life in the Championship.
