Kalvin Phillips has hit back at claims that Leeds United were fearful of facing Brentford, saying 'out performance shut them up'.

The Bees' head coach Thomas Frank took the headlines earlier this week as he suggested that Marcelo Bielsa and his side would not be looking forward to a trip to Griffin Park as they prepared to face off in a promotion crunch match.

Leeds don't have the best record against Brentford, but they certainly impressed as they secured a 1-1 draw against the in-form Bees.

Phillips returned to the side following a three-match suspension and put in an excellent display against Frank's side - a performance that, according to the midfielder, showed no fear.

Speaking to the Leeds United website, Phillips said: "The team showed desire, grit, and determination to come back, we were on top at the start, and then all throughout, I'm very proud of the lads who put in a good performance.

"We were never going to come here and lie down, although many people thought we would have done.

"We had a lot of comments from the Brentford fans and the Brentford manager, saying that we were fearing them, but we never fear a team going into a game, and I think it showed today.

"We are a very good footballing side, and with the way they play, I think we put a lot of pressure on them.

"We let them talk before the game, and let our performance shut them up."

How many of Leeds United's number 10s can you remember?

The verdict

It was certainly an impressive display from Leeds United.

Despite Kiko Casilla's early error, the Whites showed their class against Brentford and were unfortunate not to come away with all three points in a dominant display.

Kalvin Phillips was key to that after returning to the side, and he showed just how key he could be to Leeds United's promotion hunt.

As for being fearful of the Bees, I think Leeds let their football do the talking for the most part.
