Evans is honoured to be the new Leeds boss

The former Rotherham United manager takes over from Uwe Rosler who was sacked by Leeds United this morning in a shock set of events at the Yorkshire club.

The 52-year-old faces a tough task of revitalising the Leeds United team, who currently sit in 18th place in the Sky Bet Championship, and are seemingly bereft of any confidence.

Speaking to the Leeds United official site, Evans said:“ I’m honoured and proud, but the supporters just want to see what happens on the pitch,”

"The first thing we need to do is win some points and win some football matches.

“We’ve got two tough games in the next six days. I know it’s seven months since we won at home and that is something we need to get off our back.

“But, more importantly, we’ve now got two away games and that is important in isolation. The first thing that matters is at Fulham

"All I can ask the Leeds United supporters to do is to give me the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps I wouldn’t be the chosen manager for many Leeds United fans - I had butterflies in my stomach driving into Thorp Arch this morning.

The Elland Road outfit have lost their last three league games in the Championship, and need to sort themselves out soon before they drift into the dreaded relegation zone.

Evans has had spells managing Stamford, Boston United, Crawley Town and Rotherham United, and this will arguably be Evans' toughest challenge in his managerial career.
