Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen has vowed to stand by Andy Lonergan after the goalkeeper had yet another poor game, football journalist Adam Pope has revealed on Twitter.

More errors from Lonergan saw Leeds United suffer a humiliating 4-1 defeat at the hands of top of the league side Wolves at Molineux.

He was only introduced to the team after a string of mistakes saw summer signing Felix Wiedwald lose his place between the sticks for the Whites.

But now fans are questioning whether Lonergan should retain his place in goal after suffering a number of gaffes himself.

But Christiansen brushed aside these suggestions and confirmed that he will support his goalkeeper.

Adam Pope tweeted to reveal that, on the subject of Lonergan, Christiansen said:

“Everyone makes mistakes and I will always support them.”

Only two games ago, Andy Lonergan made a costly mistake to gift Brentford the opener on their way to a 3-1 win over Leeds.

Now, with increasing pressure from fans, it will be interesting to see whether Christiansen bows to the pressure and decides to reinstall Wiedwald again.

The Verdict

I believe the problem stems from Christiansen's summer spending.

Getting rid of a reliable goalkeeper in Rob Green to bring in error-prone duo Wiedwald and Lonergan has come back to bite him.

But Lonergan definitely needs to be dropped because he continues to cost Leeds points.
