Garry Monk has hinted that his long-term future will lie with Leeds United, according to journalist Phil Hay.

Yorkshire Evening Post’s Phil Hay was tweeting from his personal twitter account from Monk’s press conference on Thursday afternoon.

One particular tweet read: “Monk sees Leeds as a long-term project.”

Monk is on a 12-month contract, which he signed in June, but indicated he could be set to sign a long-term deal.

The ex-Swansea boss is the seventh head coach Leeds have had since Massimo Cellino’s takeover in February 2014, and would become the first to secure a new deal.

It was reported following Andrea Radrizzani’s 50% investment in the club, that talks were happening between the owners and Monk over an improved contract.

Monk endured a tough start to life at Elland Road, with the club sat in the relegation zone after six games, but now has fans dreaming of promotion.

Leeds are currently third in the Sky Bet Championship, six points behind second placed Brighton, and a play-off position should be the minimum requirement in May.

Monk takes his in-form squad to Oakwell this weekend for a Yorkshire derby with Barnsley.
