Andy Lonergan is set to be involved in Leeds United’s trip to Hull City tomorrow evening, despite ongoing speculation surrounding the goalkeeper’s future at Elland Road, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post’s, Phil Hay.

Reports over the last week have confirmed that Sunderland have a firm interest in taking Lonergan away from Elland Road, with Chris Coleman keen to add the goalkeeper to his options at the Stadium of Light.

There have been no known developments at this stage, with Thomas Christiansen confirming that Lonergan, 34, would be involved in Leeds’ squad that is set to travel to the KCOM Stadium to face Hull tomorrow evening, before the club “will see” about his long-term future.

So far this season Lonergan has been back-up to Felix Wiedwald at Elland Road, with the goalkeeper only first choice for a brief spell across October and November.

Lonergan has made seven Championship appearances, but has been involved for Leeds in the cup competitions also.

Leeds, with Lonergan amongst them, will travel to Hull on a miserable run of form, which has seen Christiansen’s side fail to record a victory across all competitions since Boxing Day.

That run of results has coincided with the Whites slipping adrift of the play-off zone and down into 10th.

The Verdict

There is certainly something in the links between Lonergan and Sunderland, and after tomorrow there could be every chance we see the goalkeeper on the move.

So far this season Lonergan has been predominantly used as second choice, and if Leeds are to agree to a move, they will want to have a replacement lined up.

From the point of view of tomorrow’s fixture, it make sense for Leeds to have Lonergan within their travelling party.
