According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Souleymane Doukara is edging closer to the Leeds United exit door.

Thomas Christiansen confirmed he and the player had reached an agreement not to play him in Leeds United’s Carabao Cup clash with Newport County, with speculation about his future continuing to grow.

Doukara is attracting interest from Italy and Turkey, whilst Leeds’ Sky Bet Championship rivals, Barnsley, have also shown an interest in the forward.

The 25-year-old has just a year remaining on his contract at Elland Road, but has not yet featured under Christiansen during the 2017/18 campaign, as Leeds remain unbeaten across all competitions.

Doukara has had a mixed career so far at Elland Road, having arrived in West Yorkshire ahead of the 2014/15 campaign, as part of Massimo Cellino’s first summer at the club.

The Frenchman has made 93 appearances across all competitions for Leeds, scoring on 18 occasions, including 14 in the Championship.

Doukara’s most influential goalscoring season at Elland Road was his first, but his all round performance improved last season under Garry Monk, as Leeds finished the 2016/17 campaign seventh.

Doukara made 39 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring six goals for Leeds in the Championship.

The Verdict

Doukara clearly does not fit into Christiansen’s plans at Leeds, with his career at Elland Road looking almost certain to be coming to an end in the coming week.

The Frenchman was set to be included against Newport, but his omission is understandable, with Leeds not wanting to put the player’s move to another club at risk so late in the transfer window.

Doukara’s Leeds career has certainly been mixed, but his performances last season were appreciated, with the forward impressing under Garry Monk.
