The Championship clubs are expected to vote to resume contact training next week, with Leeds United and West Brom edging closer to their desire of resuming the season and securing promotion in the remaining nine games.

Leeds currently sit top of the pile in the Championship, with West Brom hot on their heels and sitting second in the table. Both sides hold a handsome lead over third-placed Fulham and promotion would likely be awarded on sporting merit if the final nine games of the season can’t be played.

Nevertheless, both sides are keen to resume playing when safe to do so, as they look to win promotion the ‘proper’ way.

Quiz: Have Leeds United done these 15 things in the last 10 years? – Yes or no?

And, the latest Telegraph report takes them another step towards doing that, detailing how clubs in the Championship are likely going to vote in favour of a return to contact training next week.

The Premier League made that decision yesterday, with that the biggest indication yet that things will start up again and the 2019/20 season will be concluded.

A return date for the Championship hasn’t been decided yet, but the Telegraph’s report states either June 19th or 26th looks likely.

Amongst the final nine games of the Championship season, Leeds and West Brom do have to play Fulham, which gives the promotion race that little bit more edge.

The Verdict

This is great news for Leeds and West Brom, plus any other Championship side pushing for the season to resume.

The Premier League is motoring along nicely towards a resume and with the Championship also one of Europe’s leading divisions, they will be desperate to shadow what the top-flight does.

A big few months is on the horizon.
