Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday are among a host of clubs all vying for the signature of Huddersfield Town striker Joe Lolley, according to FLW sources.

Lolley was regarded as the new 'Lionel Messi' in non-league football

FLW understands that Leeds and Wednesday are joined by as many as five other Sky Bet Championship and League One clubs, all monitoring the progress of the 22-year-old.

The Huddersfield Town striker was regarded as the non-league's 'new Lionel Messi' during his time at non-league outfit Kidderminster Harriers.

The Redditch-born forward has found first-team opportunities relatively hard to get at the John Smiths Stadium this season, and has more often than not been on the substitutes bench.

This far this season he has accumulated 13 appearances for Chris Powell's side, and has scored one goal.

Lolley was on the bench for the Terriers' last Sky Bet Championship match against Neil Redfearn's Leeds United, in what culminated in a 2-1 victory for the Whites.

The win gave Redfearn successive wins in the league following their 1-0 win over league leaders AFC Bournemouth on the 20th January.

Redfearn spoke of his delight after the dramatic win over the Terriers, telling BBC Sport:

“It was a great win because it sends out a message. It’s a culmination of the four matches and is similar to when I was caretaker.

“We have two wins and two draws and we are going in the right direction.”

It is unlikely any deal for Lolley will be made in this transfer window, with a summer transfer more likely to occur.
