Leeds United and Reading are still battling it out for Jordan Hugill who is also attracting interest from Crystal Palace.

Preston are believed to want £10m for their star striker and according to the Daily Mail the Championship duo are still interested in Hugill. However, a move to Palace would obviously be the most appealing to the 25-year old.

North End boss Alex Neil left Hugill out of the squad that won 3-0 at Nottingham Forest yesterday and confirmed that there had been contact from a top-flight side.

I didn’t think Jordan was in the right frame of mind. There’s interest from a team in the Premier League and as of now we have rejected any offer that has been made.”

Both Leeds and Reading have been desperate for a striker this month and the Whites are set to sign Tyler Roberts from West Brom today. Meanwhile, Chris Martin is on the verge of joining the Royals for the remainder of the season.

Whether the eight-goal Hugill would still be a target for either side remains to be seen although both clubs have shown a strong interest in the player over the past month.

The Verdict

Jordan Hugill is a very capable Championship striker so would enhance both the Leeds and Reading squad, even if they do complete the other signings today.

But, the Palace interest makes that deal a lot harder for the clubs. They won’t be able to compete financially with the Eagles and of course, Premier League football is a massive incentive for the player.

Ultimately though, it’s up to the sides to agree a fee with Preston and as of now no team has met their valuation.
