According to the Sun, Leeds United and Reading are both interested in bringing James Wilson to the Sky Bet Championship on-loan during the January transfer window.

Wilson remained at Manchester United over the summer transfer window, with the Premier League outfit keeping tabs on the 21-year-old as he recovers from a knee-ligament injury picked up on-loan at Derby County last season.

The striker has openly admitted he is keen to move away from Old Trafford temporarily in search of first-team football, and reports have confirmed that Leeds and Reading are interested in handing Wilson an opportunity away from Lancashire.

Wilson has spent time in the Championship before with Brighton and Hove Albion, where he made 25 appearances and scored five goals between November 2015 and June 2016. The 21-year-old’s most recent loan spell, with Derby, was ended by an injury picked up a year ago.

Wilson has also made 20 senior appearances for Man United, scoring four goals for the Red Devils, including three in the Premier League. The striker’s last senior appearance for his parent-club came in October 2015.

Leeds and Reading are expected to be two clubs challenging for promotion in the Championship this season, despite enduring differing starts to the 2017/18 campaign.

Leeds are currently sixth, whilst Reading sit 20th. The duo faced each other on Saturday afternoon, with the Royals causing an upset at Elland Road, beating Leeds 1-0.

The Verdict

Wilson has a lot to prove when he returns to first-team action, whether that is at Manchester United or in the Championship.

Leeds and Reading will both be looking to strengthen their attacking options in the January transfer window, and Wilson could be a dangerous addition.

Leeds are yet to properly replace the goals of Chris Wood, whilst Reading have scored just 10 goals this season.

It is easy to see why the duo are considering a move for Wilson.
