Ben Wilmot is a name you may not be familiar with, but that could all change in a few months time.

Wilmot is a 19-year old centre half who is just 15 appearances into his career at League Two Stevenage.

This week he was named in the England U20 side amongst relatively huge names such as Phil Foden and Jado Sancho.

The side is littered with players from the Category One academies, but in amongst those stars is a player from little Stevenage, firmly ensconced in the basement division of the Football league.

In January a host of clubs coveted his signature.

Watford moved with a £500k bid, that was rejected. Spurs bid less, obviously that too wasn't accepted. It's now reported both Leeds and Derby also showed interest.

This summer Wilmot is almost certain to move on, the culmination of a truly astounding season for a player who, up until this season, played in central midfield.

Stevenage's price is £1m, a huge amount for the League Two club, but loose change for the Premier League. Whether the Championship sides can compete with the big hitters at the end of the season, remains to be seen.

The Verdict

Ben Wilmot, remember the name. League Two is no place for a teenage defender, there's some big, nasty centre forwards in there with a physical challenge that would scare some kids back into the reserves.

The U21 sides didn't impress in the Checkatrade Trophy because put simply, men will almost always beat boys.

Ben Wilmot is different, he's coming up in an altogether different way to our other future stars and he might just be better for it.
