Leeds United and Crystal Palace face battle to secure EFL starlet as contract update emerges

Reading remain in talks with Michael Olise as they look to tie him down to a new contract, according to the Reading Chronicle.

The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the hottest prospects outside of the Premier League after bursting onto the scene for the Royals in the last couple of years.

After playing 23 times for the Berkshire side last term Olise has really kicked on this season after proving himself as a central player at the Madejski Stadium.

Four goals and eight assists so far this term has alerted several big clubs to his services – particularly with his current contract due to expire at the end of the season.

Reading would hate to lose him for nothing and that’s why interest is so high this month.

Leeds United and Crystal Palace are among the clubs who are said to be keen on making a move for the player in the January transfer window.

Both clubs would love to bring the 19-year-old onboard and with Reading’s grip on the player slipping by the day there’s every chance that a cut-price deal could be struck before the end of the month.

The Verdict

Michael Olise is an outstanding talent.

To be putting in the performances that he is at just 19 years of age it’s no surprise that such reputable clubs are interested in making a move.

Unfortunately for Reading it seems that the situation is out of their control.

Given the calibre of the interested clubs it seems unlikely that the Royals will be able to keep the player, and that means that the focus for them now must be on recouping as big a fee as possible.

That could mean selling him this month if he won’t agree a deal – something that will be a bitter pill to swallow for supporters.
