Leeds United's hopes of landing Jason Denayer on loan have been dashed.

[ad_pod ]

According to The Daily Star, Denayer has told Manchester City that he does not want to go out on loan again this summer as he would prefer a permanent switch.

The 8-cap Belgium international is keen on moving permanently to Galatasaray, who he helped win the Super Lig title on loan last season.

Man City want £7m for Denayer, while Galatasaray are hoping to capture him for as little as £3m.

Denayer's preference to leave permanently spells the end of the loan chase for Leeds and Celtic.

Celtic previously had the centre-half on loan in the 2014/15 season, where he played a part in their title winning campaign and also won the Scottish League Cup.

Denayer has never played for Man City but has had two loan spells at Galatasaray, in addition to temporary stints with Celtic and Sunderland.

Leeds are looking for a new centre-back before the loan window closes at the end of this month and Denayer was a target, given Marcelo Bielsa's relationship with Pep Guardiola.

That has already seen them land Jack Harrison on loan but Denayer will not be moving to Elland Road.

The Verdict

This is a shame because a partnership of Denayer and Pontus Jansson would have been very solid in the Championship.

Bielsa now needs to look at other targets and there are plenty of talented young central defenders in the Premier League who would thrive on loan at Leeds.

I'd seek alternative targets rather than press ahead with a move for Matthew Pennington, which looks likely.
