Both Aston Villa and Leeds United are keen on making a move for Lille winger Anwar Al-Ghazi, according to L’Equipe, via the Birmingham Mail.

The 23-year-old is managed by Jorge Mendes' Gestifute agency, with the so-called super agent having been mentioned as a source of players for both Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani and new Villa bosses Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens this summer.

Al-Ghazi is also reportedly wanted by French sides Saint-Ettiene and Rennes who have seen him in league action and who can both make permanent transfers at the present time.

The 23-year-old was schooled at Sparta Rotterdam amongst others, but later secured a move to Ajax where he made 100 appearances, scoring 23 times. He left the Netherlands, landing an €8 million move to Lille in January 2017, where he has scored six times in 44 outings.

The 6ft 2in winger has two Netherlands caps to his name and could also have represented Morocco as he enjoys dual nationality.

Both Villa and Leeds are reportedly keen on a new wide man and both see the player as perfect for their respective Premier League promotion assaults.

The Verdict

On the face of it, you'd be very surprised to see a player such as Al-Ghazi appear in the Championship, especially with Ligue 1 interest too.

Then you throw in the spice of Jorge Mendes, remembering the moves he set up for Wolves and for Forest and it becomes much more of a possibility.

Would Lille be willing to facilitate a loan move, but with a right to buy at the end of it? That would be the only way either side could add him to their ranks this season.
