Kalvin Phillips has insisted that morale within Leeds United’s playing squad is still high despite a frustrating run of results.

Leeds were one of the Championship’s most impressive outfits over the course of August, but in the last six weeks their form has dipped amid a number of injuries.

Blackburn Rovers beat Marcelo Bielsa’s side on Saturday, with the Whites suffering just their second defeat of the season at Ewood Park.

That result means Leeds have taken just nine points from the last 21 available, which has meant a number of clubs are now in hot pursuit of Bielsa’s side in the race to establish themselves in the play-offs.

However, Phillips, 22, has been quick to stress morale remains high at Elland Road.

“Morale is great, we have a good set of lads and a good set of leaders, there is never a time where we don’t think we are not good enough to go out and win a game, we are always connected as a team and I think that will show throughout the season,” the midfielder told Leeds Live.

Leeds have an opportunity to right Saturday’s defeat this week, with two home games in the space of four days.

Bielsa’s side welcome Ipswich Town to Elland Road on Wednesday evening, before doing battle with Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.

The Verdict

Results haven’t been good enough recently, but Leeds are still in a strong position at this moment in time and there is little reason for morale to be dipping too much.

It’s a big week for Leeds, though, as two victories could start putting things right for Bielsa’s side.
