Bailey Peacock-Farrell has been rewarded for a solid stint in the Leeds United first-team by a call-up to the Northern Ireland under-21 squad.

Northern Ireland moved to confirm their squad via their official Twitter account (@NorthernIreland) earlier, with Peacock-Farrell included.

Leeds’ 21-year-old goalkeeper will be competing with Conor Mitchell for the gloves during the international break, when Northern Ireland’s youngsters go up against Spain and Iceland at the end of March.

Paul Heckingbottom has handed Peacock-Farrell a starting berth at Elland Road in recent weeks, with the youngster selected ahead of Felix Wiedwald and Andy Lonergan, who have both struggled to nail down the No. 1 jersey this season.

Peacock-Farrell has featured against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Reading, and has been told by his manager that he is in control of the gloves ahead of the final nine fixtures.

Before Peacock-Farrell links up with Northern Ireland’s youngsters, he will be looking to record his first clean sheet of the season at Elland Road this weekend, with Leeds entertaining Sheffield Wednesday in a Yorkshire derby.

The Verdict

What a boost this is for Peacock-Farrell, who has been impressive since his recall to the Leeds starting XI.

The 21-year-old has produced some magnificent displays and is more than deserving of retaining his place at Elland Road.

An international call-up is a good reward for the goalkeeper’s hard work, and he will be hoping to feature for the under-21s.
