Shocking footage emerged on Tuesday showing a young Syrian refugee being assaulted by a fellow student in Huddersfield, with the video going viral.

Many high-profile names have offered their thoughts and sympathy towards the young boy, including Leeds defender, Pontus Jansson, who has described the victim as 'an inspiration'.

Jansson posted the following message on his Twitter page, offering support to the schoolboy:

"Little man, whatever I can do for you, I would do it. People like you are inspiration for so many to fight for justice! Be strong my warrior!"

The student who committed the awful and sickening attack has since been charged by the police with assault.

Jansson has been a regular in the Leeds line-up this season and Marcelo Bielsa will be keen to have his star defender back in action as quickly as possible ahead of a busy festive period.

He has made 13 appearances for the Whites this season and will be keen to play his part in their promotion bid this season after missing the last two fixtures through injury.

The Verdict

This type of message shows Jansson's class.

The Swede has been a figure that many look up to in Leeds following his arrival in English football, with this highlighting further what a role model he is.

Jansson is certainly the type of person you want in and around your club.
