Nottingham Forest picked up their first points of the season after recording a 1-1 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road thanks to Lewis Grabban’s 77th minute effort.

Leeds were 3-1 winners last weekend at Bristol City after putting in a clinical display, but old habits were creeping back in on their first outing at Elland Road since the play-off defeat to Derby in May, with Marcelo Bielsa’s attackers wasteful either side of Pablo Hernandez’s opening goal.

The Whites did start where they left off at Ashton Gate last weekend, pressing hard out of possession and dominating the ball in the first-half.

Adam Forshaw – who looks to have much more licence to get forward this season – was bundled over in the box after five minutes, but referee Robert Jones waved away the home side’s appeal for a penalty, which would turn out to be a regular theme throughout the game.

Pressure continued to build, with Leeds attacking well down the left again through Jack Harrison and winning plenty of corners. One, on nine minutes, had Arijanet Muric flapping, but the goalkeeper wouldn’t be punished as the ball evaded everyone.

The theme of Leeds winning corners that came to nothing continued, with Liam Cooper heading a chance narrowly wide of the far post on 21 minutes after Kalvin Phillips’ set-piece found him.

By now, chances were starting to flow, with Patrick Bamford involved. However, the striker’s breakthrough didn’t come. Phillips worked his way into the book, as Forest began to get to grips with the Whites’ dominance.

There was little going forward from Lamouchi’s side – minus a 41st minute corner – and Leeds ended the opening half on the front foot, but Mateusz Klich couldn’t find Bamford after the forward set him away down the left.

After failing to threaten Leeds in a goalless first-half, you might’ve thought Forest would come out of the traps a little brighter in the second, but it was Leeds dominating again.

Bamford had two good chances around the 50-minute mark; hitting the bar with an effort after good work from Harrison on the left, before lobbing a shot just wide of the right post.

However, Leeds wouldn’t have to wait much longer for a breakthrough, which came through Hernandez. Neat interplay between Bamford and Klich got the Spaniard away, and he made no mistake to make it 1-0 in the 59th minute.

Lamouchi looked for a way back into the game by turning to his bench, with Samba Sow, Sammy Ameobi and Rafa Mir introduced.

And, Forest soon had parity as Matty Cash’s 77th minute corner dropped in the area and Lewis Grabban – who had been so isolated for much of the game before Mir's introduction – poked home. Bielsa's side punished for failing to take chances.

Leeds began to press again, with Helder Costa on for an Elland Road debut. However, the Whites’ set-piece continued to bring nothing.

Bielsa’s side pushed hard for a winner as stoppage time came about, with Costa involved in plenty of action down the right and having a penalty claim turned down, but clear-cut chances didn't materialise for Leeds.

There would be no winner, and Forest held firm to pick up a good point on the road.

It was hardly a classic, but Leeds’ problems were highlighted again by their lack of cutting edge, which Bielsa fielded a lot of questions about in the post-match press conference.

For Forest, their main man, Grabban, is up and running, with Lamouchi’s first points on the board.
