Spanish side Las Palmas are set to rival Leeds United for the signing of striker Rafa Mujica, Spanish outlet Canarias7 have reported.

It had appeared as though Mujica's move to Elland Road had been a certainty, with Spanish newspaper Marca reporting last month that the deal for the 20-year-old striker to move to the Championship has already been signed, although there has still yet to be any confirmation of the striker's arrival in Yorkshire.

Now however Leeds are set to face competition from the Spanish second tier, with Las Palmas reportedly keen to bring Mujica back to the club where he began his career.

The attacker originally started his time in the game with Las Palmas' youth side, although he never made an appearance for their first team before moving to Barcelona in May 2015, where he has since gone onto make 60 appearances and score ten goals in all competitions for the Spanish giant's second team, who currently play in Spain's third tier.

Mujica is out of contract at the end of the season with Barcelona, meaning he would be available on a free transfer for either Leeds or Las Palmas.

The verdict

This may be something of a concern for Leeds.

Given Mujica already knows Las Palmas from his time in their youth setup, you wonder whether he will be tempted to return there rather than make the move all the way to Leeds.

Mujica may also feel that he is likely to be given more opportunities at Las Palmas, although that may suggest that this won't be too much of a miss for Leeds, particularly given his goalscoring record, which is not altogether convincing.
