Leeds United might have been given a recent boost to their chances of keeping Pontus Jansson from a perhaps unexpected source.

The Whites have had a woeful season in all honesty and are limping to the finishing line in the Championship.

Certainly, they've got to do better next year and keeping their best players in the squad has to be a part of that.

They might be a bit worried about Pontus Jansson leaving after Ed Aarons' tweet suggested West Ham were keen in the summer but Swedish outlet Expressen has almost looked to pour water on that.

Indeed, in their recent piece about the defender they describe the Hammers as the top flight's 'Chaos Club,' as well as being fairly blunt about appraising how the East London side has had another struggling season.

Will that put Jansson off? It remains to be seen, but it might just give the Whites a little more leverage in keeping him.

The Verdict

It's unlikely this would stop Jansson going to West Ham by itself - if he did decide to move - but it does raise a fairly poignant point and would be something to think about.

Leeds, of course, haven't exactly had a smooth ride this year but Jansson seems happy enough to stick around and so he might just be at Elland Road for 2018/19.
