Leeds United have failed in a bid to sign experienced defender Bram Nuytinck, according to Belgian news outlet De Morgen, via HITC.

The 27-year-old opted to sign for Italian side Udinese this past week, but not before snubbing a move to Elland Road and Leeds as the Championship club looked to add some real quality to their back four ahead of the new season.

Nuytinck had made over 150 appearances for Anderlecht before opting to move to Italy. Despite never making the breakthrough into the Dutch national team, he did make over 20 appearances for his country's under-21 side at the beginning of his career.

The news was no doubt a bitter blow for Leeds and their new manager Thomas Christiansen, who would have been hoping to seal a direct replacement following the loss of Kyle Bartley at the end of the last campaign.

Leeds are looking to bounce back from last season's disappointing end to the season where they collapsed to miss out on a top six spot after sitting there for much of the season. They kick off their campaign for 2018 with a trip to newly promoted Bolton next Sunday.
