Leeds United moved ever closer to cementing a place back in the Premier League with a 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday yesterday.

With Sheffield United drawing at home, the Whites went three points clear in second and now firmly have promotion in their own hands following a season of excellent performances.

Key to their excellent form has been the midfield play of Kalvin Phillips, who has come into his own in a deep lying midfield role in the centre of the park.

However, with Phillips playing so well, he was always going to attract attention from onlooking clubs, and that's exactly what has happened, with the Sun on Sunday (print edition 14/04/2019) reporting that Southampton could be set to launch a £20m move for the midfield ace.

Phillips is a fine player, and it is little surprise to see Premier League clubs looking at him, but we here at FLW think Leeds need to bat away any potential interest with a firm no.

While £20m might seem a big chunk of change, if Leeds do get promoted, then they might well not need that money, and realistically, who is going to come in and do the job Phillips does to such effect?

Sometimes it's not always about the money you can get for a player, and this could be the case with Phillips. He's adapted the role perfectly to suit his own style, and he is a vital cog in the system employed by Marcelo Bielsa.

If Leeds are to be successful if and when they are promoted, then Phillips is going to be crucial. Selling up simply isn't something they should be entertaining, although of course, if they do end up staying in the Championship, it might be a completely different story.
