The Championship season has already been an exciting one, with the promotion picture shaping up to be one of the most tense we have seen in recent years.

There's been plenty of big performances and some shocks, such as Norwich City sitting top of the pile at the moment while the likes of Aston Villa have once again struggled for any sort of consistency and form.

However, there some of the usual suspects in the mix, and now, nearly at the halfway stage of the season, Leeds Live have published their team of the season so far, a team which is dominated by the likes of Leeds, Middlesbrough, and Sheffield United, all of whom are in the running to go up.

Marcelo Bielsa's men see three players selected, with Barry Douglas, Matheusz Klich, and Luke Ayling featuring, while Sheffield United have Billy Sharp and Oli Norwood in the XI.

For Middlesbrough, giant defender Aden Flint and goalkeeper Darren Randolph feature in the back five, meaning that three clubs in the promotion picture make up just shy of 70% of the selected team.

It just shows how well the Yorkshire clubs are doing this term, and Leeds will no doubt be hoping to see even more of their squad selected come the end of the season.

The verdict

This XI makes sense really. All the mentioned clubs have been superb, while the other selections like Mason Mount are impossible to ignore.

It will be interesting to see how this XI takes shape as the season progresses, where plenty of big players will be hoping to keep having an impact over the course of the campaign.
