Leeds United have targeted Luton Town defender James Justin after it was revealed that Luke Ayling would miss the rest of the season following an ankle injury.
The former Bristol City right-back suffered the setback against Nottingham Forest on New Year’s Day, although the extent of the injury was only revealed today.
And, despite the fact Vurnon Anita and Gaetano Berardi can cover for Ayling, according to Football Insider Leeds want to bring in Justin.
The report states that a bid from the Whites is imminent to the high-flying Hatters who will be desperate to keep hold of the talented 19-year old.
Justin played over 30 games as Luton made the play-offs last season and he has featured 15 times so far during this campaign for Nathan Jones’ free-scoring side.
Leeds are believed to have watched the player on several occasions this season but Ayling’s absence has meant they are now ready to bring the teenager to Elland Road.
However, prising the defender from Kenilworth Road will not be easy. Nottingham Forest made several bids for Justin in the summer which were rejected and the youngster signed a new deal with the League Two club.
James Justin is an outstanding talent and Leeds fans will be delighted to see that the club are quickly looking to secure a replacement for Luke Ayling.
That injury will hit them hard and whilst they do have options available they need cover for an important part of the season.
Whether Justin will want to leave Luton now is debatable given the fact he plays regularly and of course the Hatters won’t want to sell.
