Huddersfield Town are set to beat Leeds United to the signing of Forest Green Rovers midfielder Reece Brown, The Sun on Sunday (09/06,p59) have reported.

Brown enjoyed an outstanding campaign for Forest Green last season, scoring 11 goals and providing 15 assists to help his side reach the League Two play-offs, where they were ultimately beaten at the semi final stage by Tranmere Rovers.

Football Insider had previously reported that Leeds were preparing a move for the midfielder, but it now appears that they will miss out on the race for his signature.

According to The Sun on Sunday (09/06,p59), Huddersfield - who were only relegated from the Premier League last season - are set to beat the Elland Road side to secure the signing of Brown.

The 23-year-old is out of contract at Forest Green in the summer, and although the club have confirmed that they have offered him a new contract, it seems as though he will not be playing football at The New Lawn next season.

The verdict

While it will be hard to know how big a blow this is for Leeds until we actually see Brown in the Championship, this will be a source of frustration for the Elland Road.

Brown is a player who clearly has plenty of potential, and given he is available on a free transfer, this will have seemed like a big opportunity for Leeds, which they now appear to have missed out on.

Huddersfield meanwhile will surely feel pleased with their work. Brown is the sort of young and hungry player who could give them the impetus they need to bounce back following their dismal relegation last season.
