Leeds United are set to sack Paul Heckingbottom as they look to push for promotion next season after a disappointing campaign.

The former Barnsley boss only took over in February after leaving the Tykes but struggled to make a positive impact at Elland Road.

In total, the 40-year old won just four of his 16 games in charge and Leeds ending up finishing in the bottom half.

As well as that, the performances from the team were poor, with the manager struggling to get the best out of key players such as Samuel Saiz and Pontus Jansson.

Given that, owner Andrea Radrizzani has serious doubts about Heckingbottom's ability to take Leeds into the top-flight which is the aim for next season.

And, according to journalist Alan Nixon, the Whites owner is poised to sack the current boss ahead of pre-season.

Leeds have been linked with a remarkable move for former Athletic Bilbao coach Marcelo Bielsa and this decision will only add to the speculation that the renowned Argentinian coach could end up in the Championship.

The Verdict

Once again it's all going on at Leeds United and this promises to be a huge few weeks for Andrea Radrizzani.

Heckingbottom can have few complaints if he is sacked but the next appointment is crucial for the owner as he can't keep making major mistakes.

Bielsa would be an incredible coup but they need a clear strategy and plan in mind for whoever comes in as they look to end their long wait to return to the top-flight.
