Leeds United are reportedly looking into a deal for River Plate defender Gonzalo Montiel as they aim to bolster their squad ahead of a return to the Premier League.

The Whites are heading back to the top flight after many years away and fans are excited to see who their side is going to manage to sign in the coming weeks.

Indeed, they are getting linked with many names right now and, according to Dean Jones from Bleacher Report on Twitter, Montiel is a real target for them right now:

The Verdict

Leeds need defenders this summer, that much is certain.

Ben White's future is still up in the air and he is back at Brighton whilst Gaetano Berardi is out for at least the majority of next season after having surgery on an ACL injury earlier this week.

Indeed, Liam Cooper is the only senior defender the club can really look to be playing regularly next season right now and so the need for further defensive options is clear.

Montiel is evidently one they are weighing up, then, and at £15m he would not break the bank - though he would still be a significant signing for a side that is probably going to be methodical and careful in the transfer window this year.
