Pontus Jansson will not be involved for Leeds United tomorrow evening against Swansea City, with the centre-back picking up a back problem in training.

Marcelo Bielsa has provided a fitness update on Jansson to Phil Hay from the Yorkshire Evening Post, confirming that the 27-year-old will be missing tomorrow night as Leeds head to Wales.

The Argentinian did sound hopeful that Jansson would make next Saturday’s trip to Norwich City, however.

So far this season, Jansson has been limited to just two appearances across all competitions, with only one of those coming in the Championship.

With Gaetano Berardi and Liam Cooper preferred in the Championship, Jansson’s only start came against Bolton Wanderers in the Carabao Cup.

Jansson also stepped off the bench on Saturday afternoon against Rotherham United, making a brief cameo, as Leeds played out a 2-0 victory in the Yorkshire derby.

Goals from Luke Ayling and Kemar Roofe secured Leeds’ three points, with Bielsa’s side now the only team in the Championship with a 100% record after three fixtures.

Like Jansson, there were fitness concerns over Roofe, however, Bielsa has played down speculation, confirming that the forward has been training ahead of Swansea.

The Verdict

It’s an obvious blow for Leeds that Jansson is out, although it won’t directly impact Bielsa’s starting XI.

It also shows the lack of depth Leeds have at centre-back, with Jansson’s absence leaving Bielsa short should anything happen to Berardi or Cooper at Swansea.

Bielsa will be hoping that Jansson’s lay-off is short-term.
