Former Leeds forward Noel Whelan has called on Marcelo Bielsa to hand Jack Clarke a start when the side face Preston on Tuesday night.

A 1-0 defeat to Birmingham over the weekend, combined with Sheffield United winning, has left the Whites in third place as we approach the final six games.

And, Whelan, who is now a pundit for BBC Leeds, wants to see changes made for the trip to Deepdale.

"We need goals, so I’d go a bit more attacking by bringing Roofe and Clarke back into the side, with possibly Tyler Roberts and Jack Harrison making way," he told Football Insider.

"Harrison had a really poor game against Birmingham and that’s one area Bielsa could look to change."

One change may be enforced for the manager, with the influential Pablo Hernandez a doubt after picking up a late injury at St. Andrew's.

If the classy Spaniard does miss out then Kemar Roofe will come into the side on the right side of the attack.

A victory for Leeds will lift them back into the automatic promotion places with the Blades not playing until Wednesday night.

The Verdict

I think most Leeds fans would agree with Whelan's assessment here and there's no doubt that Clarke does give the side a real spark.

And, whilst Harrison has done well in terms of his performance on the whole in the past month or so, they do need more productivity from someone in an attacking position.

Either way, it's good for Bielsa to have a selection dilemma and it will be interesting to see who he starts.
