Leeds United are expected to have a busy summer as the club look to bring in several players in order to compete for promotion next season.

Reports have suggested that Hull City striker Abel Hernandez is a priority for the Whites as they look to bring in a proven goalscorer to a side that hasn't had one since they lost Chris Wood.

And, according to Lee Sobot of the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds have been handed a boost in their pursuit of the Uruguay international with Aston Villa and Wolves potentially to pull out of the race.

Villa's financial difficulties are well-known after they failed to win promotion to the Premier League and it seems highly unlikely they would be able to afford the striker now, as Sobot points out.

Whereas, whilst Wolves can offer the player Premier League football, they are closing in on the signing of Benik Afobe and it would be a surprise to see Hernandez join the Molineux side as well as him.

The former Palermo striker scored eight goals in 10 games for the Tigers this season.

The Verdict

Hernandez would be a superb signing for Leeds and it's good to see the club are showing some ambition in the market as the striker is in-demand.

It seems unlikely that Wolves or Villa will make a move for the player now and that can only be good news for Leeds.

They will still have a lot of work to do to convince him to come to Elland Road but this update is a boost.
