Leeds United midfielder Adam Forshaw is expected to be available for the game against Derby this weekend despite missing the win over Barnsley yesterday.

The former Brentford man has been a regular for Marcelo Bielsa this season, playing every minute in the league up until the trip to Oakwell.

Reporter Phil Hay revealed that a hip injury prevented the midfielder from featuring - although he suggested it isn't a serious issue for the player.

"Minor hip injury for Forshaw. Failed a fitness test but should be okay for Derby next weekend."

However, he will have a battle on his hands to win his place back, with youngster Jamie Shackleton playing extremely well in the 2-0 success against their Yorkshire rivals.

The England youngster gave the team a real energy in the middle of the park, although Forshaw had impressed so far this season himself.

The victory moved the Whites back to the top of the Championship before they come up against the Rams on Saturday. Phillip Cocu's side have failed to win since the opening day and are just two points above the relegation zone.

The verdict

This is good news for Leeds fans as Forshaw has struggled with injuries at different times in the past 18 months, so there would have been some concern that he may be out for a lengthy period.

But, Hay's update makes it pretty clear that it is a small setback and he should be involved against Derby.

Whether he gets his place back in the team remains to be seen as Shackleton stepped up well. That's exactly what the manager will have wanted and he now has a tough decision to make.
