Leeds midfielder Adam Forshaw has talked up his side's promotion chances, with Leeds setting the early pace in the Championship title race.

Leeds are currently sat top of the Championship after their routine win over Ipswich Town in midweek thanks to goals from Kemar Roofe and Liam Cooper.

Forshaw is yet to make a start for Marcelo Bielsa's side but has made seven appearances from the substitutes bench, and most recently, he impressed in their win over Ipswich.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post after their win over the Tractor Boys, the 27-year-old is confident that his team will be challenging for promotion this season.

'Early on in the season it’s really tight, as we all know,” he said. 'I heard someone on the telly saying that from Derby in fifth there were six points to Aston Villa in 16th so this moment is the start of the race.

'Hopefully we can stay up there, keep on taking points and crawling away from everyone. I think then we’ll be up there at the end of the season.'

The former Middlesbrough midfielder outlined the qualities that the Leeds team have this season, that could see them win promotion to the Premier League in May.

'We’ve got a good mix,' he said. 'We’ve got experience, we’ve got youthfulness, we’ve got intelligence from the manager and his staff. What he brings is massive.

'We’ve got the work rate and the ability and I think it’s all in place for us now. Us as players need to step up, act like leaders and drive us forward.'

Forshaw and his Leeds teammates will be hoping to build on the win in midweek with another three points against promotion rivals Nottingham Forest, in what will be a much sterner test compared to recent games.

The Verdict:

It will be refreshing for Leeds fans to see the club in such a good state at the moment, compared to recent years where they have been at the centre of controversy.

Forshaw will be pushing for a start in Marcelo Bielsa's side for their game against Nottingham Forest this weekend as he looks to replace Samuel Saiz who has struggled for a good run of form so far this season.
