Sheffield Wednesday have been the definition of inconsistency this season with them dropping points where they perhaps shouldn't have.

Even so, they are not too far away from the top six in the league at the moment and there can be no doubt that they've got the quality to reel the top sides in over the coming games.

Indeed, they've made some good signings in recent years, but who has been the best bargain? We take a look...

Alfie Burns

Tom Lees has been a major part of the reason Sheffield Wednesday have transformed themselves into promotion contenders on a regular basis, with the defender’s relationship with Glenn Loovens giving the Owls a solid platform to work from.

The defender’s career at Leeds had gone stale prior to his move to Hillsborough, but he has developed into a fine defender during his time in South Yorkshire and will surely be handed an opportunity to test himself in the Premier League before long.

Leeds’ loss is Sheffield Wednesday’s gain.

Chris Gallagher

Barry Bannan, he has been a key man for the Owls in recent years.

They took him after he struggled at Palace and he has developed significantly at Hillsborough.

He is the creative link, technically superb and has established himself as one of the better midfielders in the league. A great signing.

George Dagless

Signing Fernando Forestieri for such a small amount has to be up there.

The tricky forward is one of the best stars the Owls have, if not the best and they have missed his energy, spark and creativity sorely this season.

He should be back in a couple of months and if the Owls are still within striking distance of the play-offs then we should expect them to close the gap on his return.
