With Leeds United's hopes of a top six finish all but over, attention will now turn to the 2018/19 campaign and a summer of remodelling and rebuilding.

Fresh reports have surfaced linking Paul Heckingbottom's side with a move for 25-year old Huesca playmaker Alex Gallar. They had previously been linked in February, but Scouts Attending on Twitter reported renewed interest this week.

Gallar is a forward who can play centrally or on either flank. he's spent a majority of his career outside the top flight in Spain, appearing for the likes of Terrassa and Hercules CF. His most recent move took him to Huesca in the Spanish second division for a fee of around 400,000 euro (approx. £350,000).

His move to Huesca was prompted by them selling Samuel Saiz to Leeds in the summer. The Spaniard has played 30 times now, scoring nine goals, but was famously sent off and banned for six games for spitting at an opponent in the FA Cup defeat against Newport County.

Whilst Saiz came through the ranks at Real Madrid, Gallar has spent his career exclusively in second and third tier in Spain and, as yet, hasn't spent more than a single season with a club. He's now featured for nine teams in his career, a huge amount for a player just 25 years of age.

The Verdict

If I were a Leeds fan, I wouldn't be thrilled with the news they're targeting Gallar. He's got no pedigree in the Spanish top flight and one could argue their second tier isn't comparable to ours. There's also question marks over him moving every season, is he a bad egg? There's far too many questions to be answered and far batter options within our own lower leagues. If Leeds are going to give a player a chance, why not scour League One for someone such as Graham Carey at Plymouth?
