It’s been a frustrating start to the summer for Leeds United, who haven’t been as active as they would’ve liked in the transfer window.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side have been in action twice over the last week, fielding two very different XIs against Forest Green Rovers and York City.

At Forest Green, Bielsa’s senior players completed 90 minutes, whilst in York, Leeds’ under-23s featured, along with a small number of first-team players, including Mateusz Klich, as the lack of depth at Elland Road was highlighted.

Bielsa has handed Klich a lifeline at Elland Road, with the Polish midfielder training with Leeds and looking to work his way back into the picture after Thomas Christiansen cast him aside last season.

The 28-year-old made just nine appearances last season for Leeds, with only four of those coming in the Championship, as the midfielder struggled to adapt during his first year in English football.

There were some horror moments for Klich, there’s no denying, but people were quick to forget the nice touches against Burton Albion, or the way he and Ronaldo Vieira ran the midfield against Burnley in the Carabao Cup.

Added to that, he enjoyed a fine loan spell with FC Utrecht back in the Eredivisie during the second-half of the season.

Now, he’s in Bielsa’s thoughts, with 90 minutes at York under his belt, where he featured at centre-back and in midfield.

Vieira, Kalvin Phillips and Adam Forshaw are all ahead of Klich in the pecking order, but Leeds need a fourth central midfielder, with the Polish international in with a chance.

He needs to impress over pre-season, and, of course, Bielsa might look to bring his own man on board, but that chance is there.

Leeds haven’t been in good shape in the transfer window, and whilst that has been frustrating, it has left Klich with an opportunity to put himself in Bielsa’s thoughts.
