Leeds United's hopes of signing Liverpool midfielder Harry Wilson on loan for next season appear to have taken a significant blow, with Football Insider reporting that Wilson is not interested in another loan move.

The 22-year-old midfielder enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Derby last season, scoring 18 goals and providing six assists in 43 appearances in all competitions as The Rams reached the Championship play-off, where they missed out on promotion to the Premier League at the hands of Aston Villa.

Football Insider had previously reported that Leeds were one of a number of clubs who had made enquiries about a loan move for the Welshman, but it now appears that the midfielder himself is not interested in such a move.

It has been reported that Wilson will look for a permanent move away from Anfield in the summer, if he is not part of manager Jurgen Klopp's plans for next season.

It is thought that Wilson, who has four years remaining on his contract at Anfield, is valued at £25million by Liverpool, with sides from the Premier League, Championship, Spain, Italy and Germany all interested in the midfielder.

The verdict

This feels like a big blow for Leeds.

It is hard to see them being able to afford Wilson's asking price, and strengthen their squad elsewhere, while they are in the Championship.

As Wilson showed during his time at Derby last season, the midfielder's ability to come up with something out of nothing could have been crucial to Leeds' bid for promotion next year, and they may be ruing their failure to win promotion in the last campaign even more now.
