Leeds United head coach Dave Hockaday refused to put a timescale on when Noel Hunt and Lewis Walters might return from leg injuries picked up against Mansfield Town.
Hunt and Walters started the pre-season friendly defeat to the League Two club on Tuesday night but, after receiving treatment on the pitch, both had to be substituted after 15 and 25 minutes respectively.
Speaking about the strike duo, Hockaday told Leeds’ official website: “I can’t really say too much about the injuries at the moment. There are two of the lads that look like they are going to be out for a little while.
“Pre-season games are about individuals getting fit and staying fit.
“We’ve had two or three injuries and that’s not good, but we have been injury free up until Tuesday’s game.”
However, one player who could soon be available is midfielder Alex Mowatt, who missed United’s recent tour of Italy after suffering an injury during the close season; Hockaday does not expect the 19-year-old to feature for the first team against Chesterfield this Saturday, but thinks he could be selected for the Under-21 side.
“I think Saturday could come too soon for Alex to play for the first team,” the former Forest Green Rovers manager added.
“But certainly by Saturday he’ll be playing for the Under-21’s.”
