Leeds United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny is poised to be sacked by club owner Massimo Cellino, according to The Irish Times.
The 33-year old veteran goalkeeper is set to be sacked in a bizarre turn of events after it emerged that club owner Massimo Cellino’s reasoning is the date his birthday lies upon, 17th May.
Kenny, is currently the second highest member on the Leeds payroll on around £10,000 a week and it is thought that club owner Cellino is that superstitious over the number 17 that it will end up in Paddy’s sacking.
Massimo Cellino is incredibly superstitious over the number 17 to the point that at Cagliari he had the seat replaced by seat 16B.
An anonymous staff member said, “To say this is strange is an understatement, but once he discovered the player’s birthday fell on the 17th of a month then he didn’t want him to be picked.
“There are other issues with the player that he is concerned about, but his hatred of the number 17 knows no bounds.”
The goalkeeper’s chances aren’t helped by the fact that he was recently left out of the club’s pre-season tour of Italy.
Cellino has also told new manager Dave Hockaday to not select the Irishmen during pre-season or next season due to his fears over the number 17.
It is not known as to where Kenny may end up next but many believe his days as a professional are limited due to recent images of his physical stature and decreasing ability.
