The 24-year-old centre-half has been extremely impressive for Blackpool in League One this year, earning admirers from the Championship and even talk of an international call-up for Scotland.

The 21-year-old striker joined Blackburn on loan in January and his tally of nine goals in 17 starts helped Rovers win promotion.

Blackburn should test Newcastle's resolve with an enquiry over a permanent deal but it is more likely that they will land the England under-21 international on loan again.
