Liam Cooper has warned Leeds United that they don’t want to be getting beat twice on the bounce, as he gears his teammates up for Friday’s trip to Hillsborough.

Leeds’ unbeaten start to the Championship season came to an end on Saturday, with Birmingham City winning 2-1 at Elland Road to serve Marcelo Bielsa his first league defeat.

With no League Cup action for the Whites during the week, full focus will be on Friday night, with Leeds heading across Yorkshire to take on Sheffield Wednesday.

Cooper, Leeds’ captain, has warned his teammates that they don’t want to be losing two games in a row in the Championship.

The 27-year-old told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “We’ll be back in to put it (the defeat) right, we’ll have a tough week (of training) and we’ve got a massive game on Friday night. In this league, one thing you don’t want to do is to be getting beat twice on the bounce so we’ll be looking to put it right.”

Last season, Sheffield Wednesday did the double over Leeds, with the Whites struggling in many of their Yorkshire derbies.

Leeds’ visit to Hillsborough was one to forget, with the Whites losing 3-0 almost 12 months ago.

However, this weekend, Cooper and his teammates will be backed by 4,600 fans, with Leeds selling out their allocation in the Leppings Lane End.

The Verdict

This is dangerous territory for Leeds, who can’t afford to get out of the habit of winning.

It’s been a strong start to the season from Leeds, but after Saturday’s defeat, things need putting right.

It sounds like Cooper recognises that, with Leeds’ captain delivering a strong message.
