Leeds United have plummeted in recent decades, falling from a top flight contender to a Championship mid-table side.

The Whites last won the Division One title just before the inception of the Premier League, when Howard Wilkinson’s men romped to glory.

Since then, it has been an era to forget, mainly. The Premier League’s inaugural season saw Leeds’ first sign of regression, although it took over a decade for them to actually be relegated.

The reasons aren't hard to put your finger on, and for Leeds fans, it has been a very depressing time.

One potential reason for Leeds’ decline and failure to return could be the failed recruitment policy.

Some signings that have joined the club have just been – in no uncertain terms – a flop.

Here, we look at the worst of those, and as expected, it was tough to narrow it down to just a handful.

Agree, Leeds fans, or can you think of a worse acquisition? Let us know in the comments section.

Roque Junior joined the Whites from AC Milan in 2003 and upon his arrival, many fans thought he would be a player to solve Leeds’ problems.

The Brazilian had been part of the 2002 World Cup winning squad, albeit not in the starting XI, so his reputation led many to overestimate his qualities.

The defender left the club after a tedious time.

Seth Johnson was meant to be the midfield hero that Leeds fans could trust, and the player who would go on to be a mainstay in England’s midfield for years to come.

The Derby midfielder was excellent, but for one reason or another his move to Leeds didn’t work out and the hasty fee looked like a big loss.

In Lee Sharpe’s autobiography, he described his move to Bradford City as ‘the worst decision of his life’, but his move to Leeds wasn’t too great either.

Sharpe was signed by the Whites in 1996 and was sold to Bradford three years later.

His spell at Leeds wasn't as successful as many would've hoped.
