Leeds United are set to challenge Brighton and Hove Albion for the signature of 17-year old Polish sensation Mateusz Bogusz, according to reports from Poland, via Sports Witness.

Stade de Reims of France and Napoli have also expressed an interest in the youngster, who is currently plying his trade in his home country with Ruch Chorzow. He's out of contract at the end of the season and although a move would net them an income, it's thought they'd much rather hang on to the player.

He's an attacking midfielder, not unlike countryman Mateusz Klich, and if he were to join he'd become the third Polish player at Elland Road with Kamil Miazek also with the club.

He's capped up to Under 19 level and has scored five times from 19 outings for his club, who are in the second tier of Polish football.

It would seem likely he'd be joining up with the Leeds Under 23 side, increasingly an important part of the set up at Elland Road. Marcelo Bielsa has shown faith in many graduates from that level, with Aapo Halme and Will Huffer two of the latest to emerge from Thorp Arch to earn first team credentials.

The Verdict

A club is strengthened greatly by having a vibrant and exciting youth team which helps feed the senior squad and make a few quid in the process. Ronaldo Vieira made them the money with a big move, whilst Halme, Jack Clarke and Tyler Roberts have benefitted the first team squad.

This move would only see that legacy build even move and without being rude to Brighton, there's no comparison in terms of club size. They might be top flight, but Leeds are a huge club.
