Huddersfield Town headlines were dominated by Carlos Corberan’s departure yesterday.

Corberan stunned Huddersfield by resigning as the club’s head coach just a matter of weeks after leading them to the play-off final and within 90 minutes of a Premier League return.

A statement from Huddersfield confirmed that Corberan no longer felt he could take the club forwards after last season’s heroics.

It’s Football League World’s understanding that a lack of backing in the transfer window and narrative surrounding the business that might be done left frustrations. As such, the club and the head coach were not on the same page moving into 2022/23.

That’s been disappointing for supporters, who revelled in last season’s ride.

Corberan leaving, then, was the main headline of the last 24 hours, with plenty stemming from that.

We explore the angles you might have missed:

Danny Schofield appointed

An internal appointment has swiftly followed Corberan’s exit, with Danny Schofield overseeing first-team matters ahead of the Championship’s restart on July 29th.

Schofield played for Huddersfield and served as part of Corberan’s back room staff.

Whilst Jorge Alarcon has joined Corberan in leaving, other members of the backroom staff remain and will assist Schofield and keep some continuity.

There were reports from Football Insider suggesting that Liam Manning was on Town’s radar, yet it’s Schofield’s job moving forward and there is no truth in that speculation.

Corberan back to Leeds?

Prior to arriving at Huddersfield in 2020, Corberan had been part of Leeds’ coaching umbrella, serving as the club’s U23 boss and then working with the first-team as well once Marcelo Bielsa was appointed.

Football Insider claim that Leeds are considering bringing Corberan back to the club to work with Jesse Marsch, with the Spaniard still sharing a close relationship with Victor Orta, Leeds’ Director of Football.

It’s not clear whether that’s an opportunity that Corberan would be open to, with it Huddersfield’s belief that there’s no immediate job there for the departing boss to pick up.
