Aston Villa and Wolves are interested in hijacking Leeds’ deal for Hamburg striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga, according to Team Talk.

The 25-year-old has flown in for talks with the Whites over a potential switch, but now the West Midlands rivals are considering a swoop for the out of favour forward.

Lasogga began his career in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen’s reserve side, before joining Hamburg in 2014 via Hertha Berlin.

The striker has an impressive record with Die Rothosen, scoring 26 times in 96 appearances, with his goals contributing to keeping the former European Cup winners in the top flight.

Hamburg are keen to get the player off the books this summer, and are reportedly willing to subsidise a portion of Lasogga’s wages to ensure a deal can be completed, according to Phil Hay of The Yorkshire Evening Post on Twitter.

Big spending Wolves could pose a serious threat to Thomas Christiansen’s chances of landing the forward, with the lure of joining Nuno Santo’s revolution at Molineux sure to be an extremely enticing prospect.

Leeds are in the market for a new centre forward following the departure of Chris Wood to Burnley, and Lasogga is the man identified by Christiansen to lead the line at Elland Road this season.

The Verdict: Leeds looked certain to have won the race for Lasogga’s signature, but Villa and Wolves’ late interest could seriously throw the move into doubt.

Both clubs are an attractive proposition to foreign players, with Villa’s Premier League history a draw, and Wolves’ extensive transfer policy this summer proving to be an exciting project.

Christiansen will fight hard to secure the player’s signature, as at this late stage of the window, the Dane will not be keen to chase new deals with time running out.
