It appears that Leeds United have a significant step forward in their pursuit of new wingers this summer, as Manchester City wide-man Jack Harrison reportedly expects to join the club on loan this week.

According to Leeds Live, sources close to the 22-year-old expect a deal between City and Leeds that would bring Harrison back to Elland Road to be completed by the end of the week.

The Englishman made 42 appearances for on loan with Leeds last season, scoring four goals and turning creator four times.

The 2018/19 campaign was Harrison's most significant in English football, having previously spent time at loan at Middlesbrough at New York City, and it is no surprise that he appears keen to return due to the faith that Marco Bielsa placed in him.

Wingers are understood to be Bielsa's top priority this summer, with the Argentine coach wanting to sign three before the transfer window closes.

Expectation will be on the Lilywhites in the upcoming season after they came so close to promotion last season, making a shrewd transfer window and a solid pre-season all the more important.

The deal is now believed to hinge on whether City want to send him back to Elland Road this season.

The Verdict

Getting a deal for Harrison wrapped up early to allow him to join pre-season training as soon as possible would be a good move for Leeds.

The club have been linked with multiple other wide players this summer, including Helder Costa and Ryan Kent, but the news that the deal may be close to completion will be reassuring, especially given Jack Clarke looks set to potentially leave.

The 22-year-old is clearly a player that Bielsa trusts and thinks highly of, given the faith the Argentine put in him last season, and at his age he should only improve moving forward.

Re-signing Harrison may not be as exciting a move as the potential arrival of Costa but it is an important step toward giving Bielsa the weapons he needs for the season ahead.
