Leeds United boss Paul Heckingbottom has heaped praise on Wednesday night’s opponents Wolves, describing them as ‘one of the best teams I’ve seen in this league.’

The Whites welcome Wanderers to Elland Road knowing they need a win to keep alive their very faint play-off hopes, whereas the league leaders will be looking to and a winless run that stands at three games.

Despite that, Heckingbottom is fully aware of the challenge that Nuno Espirito Santo’s men pose, with him quoted by Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay as saying what makes the side so strong.

The former Barnsley boss has come up against Wolves twice this season already with the Tykes and his side acquitted themselves well.

A late stoppage time goal was needed for the Black Country side to beat Barnsley at home, whilst the Reds held them to a 0-0 draw at Oakwell, so Heckingbottom will be confident of going one better this time.

The Verdict

Wolves have proven themselves to be the best side in the league so this is an easy chance for Heckingbottom to take the pressure of his players by praising the opponents.

That could motivate his team and with the game on Sky they will want to show they can compete with the best in the league, particularly after Friday.

Ruben Neves’ absence is a major positive for Leeds too although it will still be a big test for the Yorkshire side and one that will answer a lot of questions for Heckingbottom as he plans for the future.
