Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen watched his side run out comfortable winners in Saturday's lunchtime Yorkshire derby against bitter rivals Barnsley and told the club's official website how pleased he was with his side's performance.

First-half goals from Samuel Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski secured a 2-0 win and all three points for Leeds in front of the Sky cameras, which moved them up to eighth in the league.

He said: "I believe that the players went out with the right mentality and that was the only way we could take something positive.

"A strong defensive game today but also up front we put in the opportunities we had. I'm very satisfied. We went up and tried to put them under pressure, knowing that we would have many possibilities to take the second balls.

"That was good, but the way we planned the game we knew how hard it would be to take something positive from here. We know that from the last 18 games here, we had only had two wins so that was a message to the players to go out focused on what they had to do.

"I'm very happy. We played against two teams that could be Premier League clubs and this derby and we got six points.

"It's good for the players to keep a clean sheet. We stand strong in defence. The performance of the whole team was good."

The Verdict:

Christiansen should be pleased to get through a week that included games against the two pre-season promotion favourites and a red-hot local derby with six points.

Leeds' form has been patchy at best since a blistering start but the manager seems very level headed and I would be shocked if he didn't have Leeds there or there abouts come the end of the season.
